Since 1974.
NorCal Queen Bees was formed out of necessity. Very few apiarists have the resources, weather, and knowledge to produce a surplus of queens necessary for re-queening. Mated queens are always in short supply. The large producers sell out very early in the season, leaving queen availability scarce in the late summer and fall months.
The health of late summer and fall queens are often devastated following the rigors of honey production and reduced foraging areas. Queens are over-worked, under nourished, and often missed for annual or biannual replacement. Only mated, robust, and hygienic queens, with the genetic talent sufficient to resist the fall and winter mite buildup, will ensure colony survival until spring.
Since 1974 our apiary has thrived in Northern California. Like every other apiarist, we have been humbled by the affects of varroa mite, reduced foraging areas, and the affects of climate change. Our queens evolve each year with the addition of genetic variation and diversity. We are still here, and thriving, proof our queens will do the same for you.
Our success in resolving our own shortage of queens for the late summer and fall, has yielded a sufficient surplus to assist in resolving your shortage as well. Our nucs continue to produce queens, into late summer. The surplus is banked, well fed, and cared for awaiting their new hive in your apiary.
